The SIP continues to monitor the uptake of science industry apprenticeships, and this is a key indicator in the SIP’s operational plan. The Sector continues to see growing numbers, and we can now see the full year from Jan – Dec ’18. This reveals 4,058 starts.
The SIP will continue to press for further flexibilities around levy spend: for a relatively small amount of funding and more flexibility we could see a real and sustained increase in numbers - i.e. 500,000 apprenticeships starts a year equates to 2.5m starts over the 5 year life of a parliament. The Government has also taken note of SIP’s active lobbying for more high profile and targeted promotion, and we have recently seen the new government campaign on TV for Apprenticeships.
